Sunday was special too.
It sounded like Ry and L would be working all day on Sunday, so it gave me another excuse to have L&M over for dinner. With Christmas approaching I find myself very nostalgic. Nostalgic in a good way, where I start to think about and remember smells, tastes, feelings of my childhood. When I was little my dad used to make his dad’s ‘famous’ bbq sauce recipe. He’d grill chicken and brush the bbq sauce all over it while grilling. He’d throw Saltines on the grill, brush them with bbq sauce and let them get a little charcoaled and give us those to munch on while we patiently awaited our dinner.
My mom took the recipe and would make spare ribs in the slow cooker with it. I opted for this route on Sunday. After hunting down the recipe (through both mom and dad) I made the sauce and poured it over the spare ribs and turned the slow cooker on for the day. I headed to the gym (in prep for our dinner) and watched football while I worked out. Came home to a hungry Ry&L so made up some grilled cheese and tomato soup and was back to the promenade to fulfill my aching Christmas spirit. I had already shopped for everyone and wrapped everything, but I felt like buying someone (anyone) something else. My lil bro lucked out. He got an extra Christmas gift.
Got home just in time to watch the Chargers win and get myself psyched up for the Giants game. We had a great dinner huddled around our TV, drinking cold beers and watching the Giants have an embarrassing loss. Oh well. Friends and food can help get me over any loss.
Now its Monday… ahhh Monday. But only a little over a week until we head back home for the holidays. And by home I mean my home… upstate NY!! WOOOOO HOOOOO.
