Winter Break
I’m reflecting back on the past two weeks. I couldn’t have predicted a better trip home. The highlights:
Saw Avatar in 3D before we left LA. Such a good movie with a good message.
We got to and from LA without delays—- what? Unheard of when flying to the northeast and stops in between.
Christmas Eve- Went to mass with my parents and grandparents and learned that God laughs at you when you make plans. God must laugh his ass off at me all the time because I am ALWAYS planning EVERYTHING. A late night dinner at home of maple chili shrimp and scallops for dinner with my mom, Gary, Ry (the hubbie) and Ry (the lil bro). It was nice to have a small group of us for dinner.
Christmas Day- we woke up excited and ready to open gifts as if we were still kids. French toast and bacon before we got in front of the tree. Again, it was just the 5 of us (and my dog Shiraz) which rarely happens and we all got to slowly open our gifts and talk about them and show em around.
Christmas Night- My aunt and her two kids came into town and we all bundled up and headed nextdoor to my grandmothers house for spaghetti and eggplant parm. Eggplant parm is my FAVORITE. And my lil bro had given me my favorite wine from Paso Robles as a gift and we all drank that. We rolled ourselves home we were so full.
The 26th— which has now become our official Christmas Day with all the rest of the aunts and uncles, kids and cousins coming into town. Jen and Red made it over too. We exchanged gifts and had a feast. There were 10 pies! The young crew stayed up all night which we haven’t done together in years. It was really nice.
A few long cold walks together, kicking the soccer ball around, playing with the dog outside, letting Shiraz sleep in our bed, food food and more food, reading books and watching movies…all the good stuff.
More to come on the rest of the vacation.
